Aqueous Packaging Aqueous coatings are water-based solutions applied to paper. Our manufacturer makes their own aqueous coated paper. This process involves applying three layers of the aqueous coating to balance the heat seal and to repel the water seal, so it does not leak. The coating is not only applied to the paper that forms the cup but also the base as well. Many cup manufacturers do not do this. That is why their cups leak and do not provide a sufficient thermal barrier to keep the contents warm. Also, the lid that fits the cup is made from aqueous coated paper, not just ordinary or PLA coated paper. This is a major advantage as the whole process of making paper cups and lids inhouse, gives you a competitively priced, controlled quality product that does not leak.
