G. Complaints If a visitor or patient has a complaint, direct them to the relevant staff member, or pass the issue on to your Volunteer Manager for follow up. H. Designated Breaks All volunteers are entitled to breaks. For a full day shift, lunch break is 30 minutes. For ½ day (min 4 hour) shift, lunch break is to be taken after shift is finished. Morning\afternoon tea break is 15 minutes to be taken away from public areas. All breaks must be coordinated to ensure adequate coverage of role. Kitchen facilities are provided I. Public Liability Insurance Volunteers are covered by Public Liability Insurance while on rostered duty. Please note this does not include travelling to and from rostered shifts. If an incident occurs follow WHS procedures, inform Volunteer Manager and fill out an Incident Report Form. J. Expenditure WSLHD will ensure that volunteers are not financially disadvantaged as a consequence of performing voluntary duties on behalf of NSW Health. Volunteers are not expected to spend their own money in conducting their duties but can check with their manager for the type of expenses that will be reimbursed and the procedure for claiming them. Non-approved expenditure will likely not be reimbursed. Volunteers are not compensated for travel to or from their workplace.
K. Media No Volunteer is entitled to make any public comment, including to the media or on social media concerning the WSLHD. Volunteers must refrain from exploiting any relationship with patients or clients, and this includes engaging through email or social media in online friendships. Patient or visitor requests for photos with Volunteers are allowed only in certain circumstances, and only when consent has been given. See Code of Conduct (Appendix A) for more information. L. Diversity WSLHD provides health services to some of the most culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) local government areas in NSW as well as a significant Aboriginal population. WSLHD supports the goals of NSW Health to promote cultural and generational diversity in volunteering by establishing communications with local community leaders to promote and develop cultural and generally diverse volunteer programs.
