“An emphasis on healthy environments and health equity through tailored, localised approaches will be key elements of our new Health Promotion framework, to be launched in early 2023.”

We have returned to our core functions of delivering health promotion, prevention, and protection programs, and creating healthy environments to improve health outcomes and reduce avoidable hospitalisations. This has involved re-engagement with many of our key external stakeholders and understanding how their environments have also shifted due to COVID-19. We have applied those learnings to our program planning and articulated specific action areas in a new Centre for Population Health Framework and Health Promotion Strategic Framework (both to be launched early 2023). These will provide robust launchpads for our team’s service delivery in the coming year and beyond. We also look forward to aligning these actions with the WSLHD Integrated Community Health strategic review, currently in progress. To highlight a few areas from the CPH Framework, our 2023 focus areas include: Strategic partnerships Continuing to strengthen partnerships with our WSLHD Integrated Community Health colleagues, and clinical engagement with District services including Maternity, Paediatrics, Geriatrics, Infectious Diseases and Sexual Health. Health equity Balancing our population-wide health promotion programs with targeted approaches for population groups and communities most in need. Aged care support Partnering with and strengthening networks between clinicians and our District to foster healthy ageing and support the management of public health risks in residential care settings. Healthy places Greater emphasis on how we can influence policy and planning decisions to help create and maintain healthy, safe and sustainable environments. Providing the evidence base and advocating for places that support healthy eating, active living and reducing environmental health risks where people work, play and live. Emerging public health matters • E-cigarettes and vaping prevention are priority health issues, particularly for our Health Promotion and Environmental Health teams. A new National Tobacco Strategy and State plan (to be launched in 2023) will help guide our local action as we implement the new Reducing the effects of smoking and vaping on pregnancy and newborn outcomes policy directive. • Increasing vaccine uptake and managing the impact of vaccine-preventable diseases are also priority health issues. • Applying recent public health learnings and reflection - whether it is for natural disasters to infectious disease responses and incorporating these into local emergency management planning. Monitoring & evaluation Exploring new online tools to help streamline our monitoring, evaluation and reporting, as part of our new frameworks across CPH.

- Michelle Nolan, A/Director – Health Promotion.

“It is a challenging, yet fulfilling time to be working in population health, serving the priority health needs of our local community. Our work is punctuated by the need for, and importance of, working in partnership – with our colleagues, our external partners, and our communities. We would like to thank our partners across the district – we value your efforts and commitments to improving the health of people in western Sydney. We welcome your suggestions and ideas for areas of development and synergies where we may work together. Please get in touch! Tribute must also go to our amazing Centre for Population Health team, the staff who enable these important health programs and services, throughout what has been an ever-changing health landscape. There is no doubt one of the keys to success in the coming year will be to prioritise building a stable and well-

supported workforce.” - CPH Executive team.
