COVID-19

Qudos Bank Arena NSW Health Vaccination Centre During the COVID-19 Delta Wave, WSLHD established the Qudos Bank Arena (QBA) mass vaccination centre to facilitate access to vaccinations for those living in local areas of concern. The vaccination centre went from concept to operation within nine days, transforming an entertainment venue into an operational clinical environment with the capacity to vaccinate up to 30,000 people per day. In addition to turning the basketball court into a pharmacy and the arena floor into a clinical observation bay, the team at QBA installed 50km electrical cabling, 200 computers with accompanying infrastructure and fast-tracked recruitment and training of vaccinators. Overall, over 330,000 people were vaccinated at Qudos Bank Arena over the 11 weeks that it was operational. The success of the operation was attributed due to a coordinated multidisciplinary effort between WSLHD clinical, management, communications, administration and procurement staff, a major pharmaceutical company, external consultants, private hospitals, universities, Australian Defence Force and even Qantas flight crew; all with the shared goal of keeping our communities safe. Safety and Quality at Qudos Bank Arena was of utmost importance to WSLHD, ensuring

330,000 vaccines, 690,000 masks and 7,000 litres of hand sanitiser

were on-site ready for when the first patient walked through the door. Clinical experts and operations managers designed effective COVID-safe models of care and Qantas staff used their expertise in customer service to ensure patient experience at QBA was positive.
