Digital Health Solutions (DHS) has been instrumental in supporting the digital health and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) needs of our consumers and business customers during 2020/21. DHS staff have led the design, build, test and implementation of numerous solutions which support our medical, nursing, and administrative colleagues in their response to this year’s COVID-19 challenges. The establishment of the Qudos Bank Arena Mass Vaccination Clinic was a significant achievement involving many DHS staff, as well as the design, build and implementation of ICT to establish the Westmead and Blacktown Vaccination Clinics. We developed a COVID-19 vaccination system including patient information collection, registration, integrations, booking, high-risk assessment, vaccination assessments and extracts for various reporting systems. This rapid project involved developing a visitor exemption request solution, which improved executive productivity to review and approve or reject requests, and an executive dashboard for tracking and reporting key data to support COVID-19 operational response. We also developed a solution to track staff entering WSLHD facilities from affected Local Government areas. In addition, we sourced and delivered equipment for multiple COVID-19 related services, including devices,

Westmead Clinical Acute Services Building (CASB) which involved the implementation of 25 digital operating rooms, which better support outpatient surgery with minimally invasive techniques and technological innovations. The rooms also provide numerous learning and development benefits, with the ability to live-stream medical procedures to students in lecture theatres. DHS launched an integrated satellite pharmacy providing medication supply and clinical pharmacy services to patients within CASB. Automated dispensing cabinets now use fingerprint technology to allow registered users access while electronically keeping track of medication being dispensed to specific patients. These cabinets improve patient safety, reduce medication errors, and ensure medications are always available, sending alerts when stock is low. State-wide radiology information systems and picture archiving and communication systems (RIS-PACS) were implemented across WSLHD. Medical imaging information sharing is now possible among healthcare providers, and patients can now view their own medical images online.

We supported the implementation of the world-first Vectra 3D imaging system to improve skin cancer detection. The digital child and pregnancy health record was rolled out, providing child digital health checks and associated research. Electronic prescribing provided major enhancements for operating suites, emergency departments, nursing and cardiology and patient safety. The Clinical Health Information Exchange was implemented to support patient transfer of care between NSW Health providers. WSLHD’s Telehealth initiatives also continue to grow, with new platforms and service offerings being delivered to clinical and administrative staff. Video conferencing and remote consultation statistics have grown exponentially, supported by a range of digital health technologies. digital operating rooms implemented
