WSLHD_CPH_Healthy High Density Living for Families with Chil
Building Management • Training should be provided and resources developed for building managers and property boards on the importance of family-friendly building design and management. • Strata by-laws and residential management procedures should include family-friendly principles, to ensure any design initiatives are able to be used as intended. By-laws should reflect the design considerations outlined in this document. • A building’s family-friendly status should be clear to incoming tenants and prospective buyers. • Maintenance of communal areas, outdoor spaces and provisions for pet ownership are beyond the scope of this document but are important for strata management to consider in creating and maintaining family-friendly buildings. • Apartments should be accessible by emergency services. To achieve sustainable increases to population density and create vibrant, walkable and well-connected communities, apartment living must be re-envisioned as a desirable housing choice for all stages in life, including raising children. For this to be realised, prioritising the needs of families with children in the design and planning of high density buildings and neighbourhoods is essential. This will have numerous positive impacts to the future viability of our urban cities, ensuring a successful transition to a more compact and sustainable urban future. Conclusion
