Healthy lifestyle program for families
Go4Fun is a healthy lifestyle program for children aged 7-13 years who are above a healthy weight, and their families. The 10-week program delivered by health professionals includes interactive family sessions on healthy eating, meal planning and label reading. Children also get active with games and activities while parents discuss topics such as role modelling and problem solving at home. In 2023 Go4Fun program implementation in WSLHD has taken an equity approach with programs delivered in areas of greatest need, focusing on Blacktown, Cumberland and Parramatta Local Government Areas.
“Being healthy and getting fitter is a whole family program and not just for the kids so that the whole family can choose healthy options.” – Parent Go4Fun participant.

Aboriginal Go4Fun A cultural adaptation of the Go4Fun program, designed with and for the Aboriginal community. Our partnership with Kimberwalli (in Whalan) to deliver Aboriginal Go4Fun continued through 2023, delivering the program to local Aboriginal families in terms 1 and 3. A new addition to the program included hands-on food activities, with learning how to prepare easy snacks well received by parents and children. In 2024, Kimberwalli have committed to deliver an Aboriginal Go4Fun program each term.
Western Sydney Go4Fun families, the leaders learn so much from the wonderful parents and carers about the challenges of supporting their children to be healthy and happy. Through these
conversations we’re able to tailor advice to provide practical solutions such as swapping ingredients in traditional recipes to budget friendly, healthier alternatives or discussing low-cost options for participating in physical activity locally.” Kate Sewell (left) and Jennifer Plaskett (right).
