IMPROVEMENT INITIATIVES • Reinforcement of Bare below elbows practice • Implementation of the Clinical Excellence Commission’s (CEC) indwelling catheter care bundle • Implementation of the new Infection Prevention and Control Surveillance criteria for new admitted incontinent patients on long term care • Increased vigilance regarding hand hygiene practices Review of the procedure for collection of urine specimens for pathology.
IMPROVEMENT INITIATIVES • Early mobilisation of post-operative patients
• Improving oral care through denture and teeth cleaning • Dysphagia screening of high risk patients and appropriate referral to speech pathology • Case review with the specialities with the highest incident of Aspiration Pneumonia is undertaken • Advice provided to families on appropriate food choices for patients on thickened fluids • Red placemats are used for those patients who need special requirements and help when feeding.
