HEALTH PREVENTION
Preventing Type 2 Diabetes in local Pasifika communities Pasifika Preventing Diabetes Programme (PPDP) is a National Health & Medical Research Council funded research study to test if a theory-based lifestyle programme, with community-wide and peer support interventions, is associated with sustained changes in healthy lifestyle choices. Run across four metropolitan Sydney LHDs, the 51-month study is in recruitment phase. WSLHD employs one full-time Pasifika Community Lifestyle Activator to support the study and engage the local Pasifika church community. The recruitment phase aims to recruit at least 40% of people on the church register into the study from 48-60 Pasifika churches in Greater Western Sydney and South Eastern Sydney, totalling 3,600 adults and 1,000 children (4-17 years). The implementation phase will commence in early 2024.
