NSW Health WSLHD Safety & Quality Account 2020-21

Creating a Safety Culture and Empowering Safety & Quality Excellence

sparQ In June 2023, WSLHD introduced sparQ, an exciting new chapter in our safety and quality journey. sparQ is designed to unlock our staff’s capabilities and empower them to make a lasting impact. As part of sparQ WSLHD is developing programs and opportunities to equip everyone with the knowledge and skills to understand their role in safety and quality and how to develop, deliver and embed improvement activities. Schwartz Rounds In 2022, WSLHD introduced Schwartz Rounds. These forums were originally developed by The Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare. They provide a safe and confidential space for healthcare professionals to come together and discuss the emotional and social aspects of their work. These rounds aim to foster empathy, support, and open dialogue, ultimately enhancing the wellbeing of both the healthcare providers and the patients they serve.

Mental Health First Aid Network As part of our commitment improving staff wellbeing, we have partnered with Mental Health First Aid Australia to provide Mental Health First Aid training to staff who can offer initial conversations to their colleagues about their mental health concerns. They help guide them toward seeking and accessing appropriate professional help and provide a human-to-human connection conducted in an open way. This helps our staff find the support and resources they need to take the most appropriate step in addressing their wellbeing.

“We all contribute to shaping our workplace culture through everyday actions and decisions and this is just another way we can support our colleagues in their wellbeing”.
