Volunteer of the Year– Betty Starkey, Volunteer Supervisor, Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals

Betty recruited and onboarded hundreds of volunteers that came into volunteer programs at Blacktown Hospital. In her four decades as a volunteer, Betty has been involved in over $1 million dollars being raised for WSLHD.

Excellence in the Provision of Mental Health Services – Rising Stronger–Student Led Exercise in Mental Health, Westmead

People’s Choice– Titanium Online Training Program

This project successfully increased the physical activity of psychogeriatric inpatients by 50% within 12 months. During the three-month pilot study, most patients reached 50% to 70% of recommended exercise guidelines, previously averaging only 17%. This initiative has resulted in a 21% decrease in falls within the service.

This program has successfully introduced a new online training program that helps Oral Health staff to improve their skills, competence and confidence when using Titanium. From January 2022 to June 2022, appointments made in error were reduced by almost 50%.

Keeping People Healthy Award– Qudos Bank Arena NSW Health Vaccination Centre, WSLHD

Patient Safety First – QR Codes for Cast Care, Westmead Hospital

This project provided QR codes for patients to access translated cast care information and enable access to this information in different languages. Since its implementation, this project has successfully reduced adverse events relating to cast care by over 80% at Westmead Hospital.

This project established a mass vaccination centre at Qudos Bank Arena to help with the unprecedented demand for COVID-19 vaccinations. The mass vaccination centre was developed and operational within 12 days. 349,531 vaccinations were delivered over 13 weeks.
