People and Culture– HIRAID–Aged Care: Improving Quality and Safety of Residential Aged Care Facilities, WSLHD

This project developed a person-centred nursing framework that improved the quality of care of nurses in residential aged care facilities. Within the first year, this project reduced preventable deterioration of aged care residents and emergency department transfers by 20%. Aged care residents also reported improved patient experience. In addition, the quality of nursing documentation increased by 10%.
Professor Golo Ahlenstiel worked on the inTouch COVID Care in the Community which cared for over 10,000 patients with outstanding success. While he united various health professionals and teams, he also placed himself on the front lines to treat patients and develop systems to establish standardised best practices, ensuring patients received high quality and safe care in an uncertain COVID environment.
Education and Training– Debridement Education (DEBed) Study, Integrated and Community Health
Transforming the Patient Experience– Low Sensory COVID-19 Vaccination, WSLHD
This project changed the culture for wound debridement practices in ICH Chronic and Complex (CAC) Nursing through education and training of international best practices. After its implementation, 80% of CAC nurses reported improved wound healing and decreased wound sizes compared to previous practices.
This project established a vaccination pathway for people living with an intellectual disability, sensory disturbance or chronic mental health condition to enhance the uptake of COVID-19 vaccinations. Between June 2021 and June 2022, the clinic successfully delivered 513 low sensory vaccinations.
